How to say “I do”

Lovestruck Ceremonies by Ellese Brennan

You’ve already achieved the first step, deciding to get married. Look at you go!

The next thing to do is let me know the date you plan on getting married. If I’m available for your ceremony, you can either lock it in and I will secure the date in my diary or we can set up an obligation-free meeting, usually over a coffee or a glass of something a bit stronger, for you to see if I’m the right celebrant for you.

Once you’ve paid the booking fee, we’ll make time to catch up in person or online, sign the required paperwork, and begin planning your ceremony. This meeting is a chance for me to get to know you both as a couple. I will ask you both questions all about you and your love story. Such as how you met, why you chose each other as life partners, and what is important to you both in a relationship. The more information you’re comfortable sharing with me, the more unique and detailed your ceremony will be. I will also let you know the ‘typical’ flow of a ceremony but don’t worry, this is your special day so we will make sure it’s done your way!

It is important to note that this meeting needs to happen at least 31 days before your wedding to ensure that the Notice of Intended Marriage form is completed. To do this, I will need to see your identification documents which include your original Birth Certificates and/or Passports.

After the meeting, I will begin writing your ceremony with all the wonderful details you’ve shared with me. I will email you a copy of the draft for you to read before the big day so you can make any changes.

Before your wedding day, I can meet you at your rehearsal to go over the ceremony. This can be a great opportunity for you to ask me any questions about the ceremony and to experience how everything will look and feel when you’re standing in front of your family and friends.

On the day, I will arrive one hour before the ceremony to ensure that the atmosphere is just right and that everything is set up and ready to go. Most importantly, I will be there to get you married!

After the ceremony, I’ll make sure the appropriate paperwork is sent to the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registry. If you would like to apply for an Official Marriage Certificate, I can help you apply for this.
